What does a team leader do?

Jokaisella esteellä, juomapisteellä, lähdössä, maalissa, narikassa sekä ylläpito- ja tauotustiimeissä on oma tiiminvetäjä, joka on vastuussa oman tiiminsä koordinoinnista sekä kommunikoinnista järjestäjän kanssa kisapäivän aikana.

Estetiimeissä työskentelee kaksi vapaaehtoista; yksi estevalvoja sekä tiiminvetäjä, mutta muissa tiimeissä tiimiläisiä on useampia. Tiiminvetäjillä on radiopuhelimet kisan aikana, joilla pidetään yhteyttä järjestävän tahon sekä kaikkien tiimien välillä, mukaan lukien ensiapu- sekä turvallisuustiimit. Radiopuhelimen käyttö opastetaan kisapäivän aamuna.

Tiiminvetäjältä vaaditaan itsenäistä ongelmanratkaisukykyä sekä kykyä toimia ja tehdä päätöksiä ripeästi. Tapahtuman järjestäjät, ensiapu- sekä turvallisuustiimit ovat kuitenkin radiopuhelimella välittömästi tavoitettavissa, joten kukaan ei jää missään tilanteessa yksin. Kommunikointi radiopuhelinten välityksellä tapahtuu suomeksi, joten suomen kielen osaaminen on välttämätöntä. Tiiminvetäjän ei välttämättä tarvitse olla ensiaputaitoinen mikäli samasta tiimistä löytyy vähintään yksi ensiaputaitoinen henkilö. Tauotustiimissä kaikkien vapaaehtoisten on oltava EA-taitoisia.

There's a team leader in every obstacle team, start, finish, cloakroom and the teams responsible for breaks and maintenance at the race village. The team leader is responsible for the coordination of his/her team and the communication with the event organizer during the race day.

Obstacle teams consist of two volunteers; one obstacle supervisor and the team leader. The other teams consist of more volunteers. The team leaders carry walkie-talkies for keeping in contact with the organizer and other teams, including first aid and security. The use of the walkie-talkies will be instructed in the morning of the race day.

Team leaders' abilities to solve problems independently and make decisions quickly are much needed qualities. However, the event organizers, first aid and security teams can be reached through walkie-talkies at all times, so no one is left alone in any situation. The communication through the walkie-talkies will be in Finnish, so the team leaders should be able to speak and understand Finnish. The team leaders do not necessarily have to have first aid skills if there's another first aid person in the team. In the team responsible for breaks all the volunteers have to be able to give first aid.
